JESM publishes peer-reviewed research exploring and discovering new findings, implications, and future directions in medical and health sciences research.

What We Publish

JESM welcomes scholarly work in the following categories:

  • Narrative Literature Reviews
  • Scoping Reviews
  • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses
  • Evidence-Based Analytical Papers in medical ethics, health policy, public health, and medical education
  • Original Research conducted under faculty supervision
  • Secondary Data Analyses using publicly available or appropriately authorized datasets
  • Computational Research and Non-Human Data Analyses

Requirements for Original Research

Original research involving human participants, animals, or laboratory procedures must have received all applicable institutional approvals before submission. This includes:

  • IRB approval or exemption for human-subjects research
  • Institutional approval for animal research
  • Compliance with institutional laboratory and safety policies
  • Faculty supervision of student-led original research

The corresponding author must certify that all ethical and institutional requirements were met. Authors must provide supporting documentation upon request.


Secondary Data Analysis

  • JESM accepts original analyses of existing datasets.
  • Authors must follow all applicable data-use agreements, licensing requirements, privacy protections, and required training.

Currently Outside Our Scope

JESM does not currently accept:

  • Individual patient case reports
  • Research conducted without required institutional approval or exemption
  • Studies involving identifiable patient information without appropriate authorization
  • Original research that was not faculty supervised
  • Manuscripts that do not adequately explain their ethical oversight or data source

Is this a real academic journal?

Yes. JESM is a structured, peer-reviewed academic journal with editorial oversight and formal review standards. Acceptance is based on academic quality and reviewer evaluation.

Who can submit?

High school and undergraduate students. Early graduate students may submit appropriate work.

Do I need original data?

No, JESM also accepts literary and analytical research papers.

Will I receive feedback?

Yes — reviewers provide constructive feedback whenever possible.

Are there submission fees?

There is no fee to submit. Fees are only requested after acceptance.

Can I use this for applications or conferences?

Yes. The journal is designed to support future academic opportunities.

Do you guarantee acceptance?

No. All submissions undergo peer review and may be rejected.

Will my paper be indexed?

All accepted manuscripts receive a permanent digital link. DOI registration and formal indexing processes will be implemented as the journal expands.

Can mentors be co-authors?

Yes, if they contributed intellectually; otherwise, acknowledge them.
